Happy December 30th To Us!

"Sitting next to you doing absolutely nothing means absolutely everything to me."

I think that's a pretty good quote to sum up OUR day today. I say OUR day, because it's December 30th! Which means that today marks 4 years since we met. Is it weird that we still celebrate the day that we met? Like, at what point in your marriage do you have to start giving up those weird anniversaries? I just don't think I'm going to ever be ready for that...

Anyway, to celebrate knowing each other for four years now, we decided to get really crazy and... wait for it... watch Star Wars! Chris has been wanting to convert me ever since he made me go see Episode 7 a couple weeks ago, but I don't think Chris realized that with doing that he was going to be answering a million+ questions from me. Wait, does Darth Vader not have an arm?! Do Ani and Padme do IT?! Is it true that Luke and Leia were incest?! All of my questions have been answered with, "Shhh! Just watch, babe..." So watch we have! This is pretty much what our view has been the past couple of days:

Annnnd to contradict the quote that I said summed up our day, I will mention that we did go to Olive Garden for lunch, and then Swig--that counts as doing something, right?! But then we came right back to our couch and watched more Star Wars, because we're just crazy like that. Don't worry though, we got up long enough to go and see the movie, Everest.  I know, I know... a lot of sitting today. My heart loves it, my waist hates it. That's what New Year's resolutions are for though, duh.

Now we're back on our couch switching back and forth between football and basketball games (and when I say 'we,' you know I mean Chris). Super romantic, right? But that's why that quote above is kind of perfect for our day today because I truly have loved every minute with Chris today doing absolutely nothing.

I always do.
Who knew that 4 years ago I was meeting the guy I love doing absolutely nothing with? So, so glad I did.

Love you, Chris!
Happy December 30th!!!

Now time to get back to sitting and doing absolutely nothing with you...

If We Did Christmas Cards...

Our Christmas card would probably look something like this and give you the illusion that we never wear sweatpants for date night and that we are just SO candid (We always look directly into each other's eyes and smile while on a sled duh)! Then you'd flip the card over and read about our humble brag accomplishments and update you on our lives as DINK's (double income no kids) and there'd probably be a lot of references to Swig and stressful days that come from being "grown-ups" and other important things, like Chris upgrading to a smartphone in the year of 2015...

Then I'd probably stop mid-sentence and just reference you to my blog, since everything I just described is pretty much what A Tidbit of Love is all about, right!? I guess what I'm trying to say is, consider this blog your year-long Christmas card. I know, I know... you're welcome.

In all seriousness though, we wish you all a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year!!!

Love,
The Gourley's

Because, Monday.

Did anyone else's Monday start out with traffic so bad that it took an hour and a half longer than usual to get to work? . . . No? Just me? Okay. But seriously, I even left early and still missed more than half of my 1st period PE class. My 9th graders didn't seem too sad about not having to dress down, though...

Anyway, since the traffic from the crazy snow this morning just kind of gave me a "case of the Mondays," I thought I'd share the two things that are slowly helping me pull out of it.

First, if you don't already know about cranberry Sprite Zero, then you need this in your life like yesterday! Honestly, I have to thank mama Sanderson for introducing me to this AND for making it even more over the top by instructing me to put a spoonful of frozen limeade in it. If you don't believe me when I say that this drink is sugarplum fairy magicalness in a cup, then just look in my mom's (now empty) fridge + my love handles can attest to it.

Speaking of my mom AND my love handles...

We made fudge yesterday. Now that may not seem like a big deal or anything to cheer about, but trust me, it is! Mostly because I grew up with my mom who made every single delicious treat in the book EXCEPT for fudge. Fudge is just... intimidating! And if I tried to make it and wasted a bunch of chocolate and other ingredients just for grainy, not very good fudge, I'd probably throw in the towel, too and say, "Screw it! I'll just make cookies instead!" Right, mom?!

But yesterday we had renewed courage about our fudge making skills, thanks to The Pioneer Woman. If you guys didn't know, I have developed a rather unhealthy slight obsession with Ree Drummond. She's slowly crept up towards the top of my favorite women (right behind Ellen and Kelly Ripa). She just gets me and my tastebuds. Anyway, me and my mom both happened to watch her show yesterday where she made 3 ingredient fudge. How can you mess up a recipe that only has 3 ingredients?! Answer: You can't. That's how easy her fudge was. I love it, my thighs love it, everybody loves it! The only thing we changed yesterday was switch out the peppermint candies for chopped up candy cane Kisses on top. Just trust me.

Easy Peppermint Fudge

  • 3 cups Semi-Sweet Chocolate Chips (we used milk chocolate, though. "Semi" Sweet doesn't exist at mama Sanderson's house!)
  • 1 can (14 Oz. Size) Sweetened Condensed Milk
  • 8 whole Peppermint Candies, Crushed
Line a square 8 x 8 pan with foil and smooth the surface. Spray foil with nonstick spray.
Combine the chocolate chips and sweetened condensed milk in a double boiler over medium heat. Heat until melted, about 5-7 minutes. Stir until smooth, then immediately pour it into the foil-lined pan. Use an offset spatula to smooth the surface, then sprinkle on the crushed peppermints.
Refrigerate for 2 hours, then cut into small squares.

. . . Isn't that SO easy?! The hardest part is seriously just waiting for the fudge to set up... which we couldn't even do yesterday. We pulled it out after only 30 minutes and it was still delicious.

Now go make this and a cranberry Sprite and sit by your Christmas tree and indulge, because Monday! Amiright!? Another alternative might be to indulge while watching Jazz vs. Spurs... that's kind of the only option for TV tonight at the Gourley home (sorry, Pioneer Woman! + Bless DVR).

Happy Monday!

Welcome to the world, Chris!

December 8, 2015--a day which will forever be remembered as the day Chris joined the world of smartphones.

For those of you that know Chris, you know this has been a long time comin'. Seriously, the man had the kind of phone that still had buttons on it... no touch screen... the kind of phone that you had to go and manually delete text messages to free up space. Ha! Pretty sure my mom has nicer phones in the playroom than Chris' Nokia phone... but no worries! Because Chris is all trendy and iPhone-y now... and putting random emojis in text messages + having Siri call me no reason. It's cute. He's cute.

Even though I'm so happy that Chris has finally upgraded to a smartphone, I can't help but be a little sad that Chris no longer has to wait to connect to wifi to play Clash of Clans... like, am I even going to have a husband now?! But I guess I can't be too upset, because now I can celebrate the fact that Chris no longer has to forward pictures to my phone for him to actually be able to see picture messages + I don't have to Google random manly man stuff (fun fact: Chris is a hardcore Googler. Once he gets a question on his mind, he has to Google it. Other fun fact: Shayli hates Googling. Good combo, right?!)!!! Oh, and now I can delete NFL and Fantasy Football League apps off of my phone! It's like this smartphone is a gift for me, too!

Anyway, if you see Chris, congratulate him on upgrading to a phone without buttons! Or just add him on Snapchat... you know, because you CAN. And maybe try to convince him that he should get a Christagram so I can hack his account and make it look like he posts lots of cutesy stuff about his wife? But maybe leave that last part about me out of it... he might think I put you up to it or something.

Congratulations, Chris! Welcome to the world of more time wasted--you're gonna love it!

UPDATE: Chris just asked me what a "Christagram" is!

...did I mention he's cute?
